I thought about a trailer for this project and I made a small prototype consisting of the images and music which are done so far:

What's your opinion so far? I think some advertising on YouTube as video responses would be good for the publicity when the development is in a further state (I don't know how much you already implemented kone ;) )

Not bad but the music is a bit low on volume. And also mp4?

I do like how the old screens merge into my updated ones :)

I think mp4 is standard when you download high-def videos from YT. Thanks for the hint about the volume. For me it was too loud :D

Updated the trailer. Now the background music should be louder.

Wow!!
Wow!
Reaaaly nice!

So you are also creating videos...
I need to get the game done so you can cut together some nice gameplay vids and make cooler gameplay trailers.

Btw...
I was in contact with rhouzo who did the 'Let's Play' on YT in german.
He said he would playtest our new game as soon as there is something to test.
I invited him to this forum but he never got around to join I guess.

That being said:
Until we have a solid deal with the original devs, I maybe wouldn't put the original graphic on the net...

Music volume is ok now.

I have a YouTube channel and I'm an official trained specialist for application development (so I'm a programmer too with some little experience in C# and PureBasic :D) but as you know I'm specialised for developing web applications / web sites with PHP.

I also saw his Let's Play and as far as I know he got a new channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ZeEvilTeuton

I agree but I was wondering why those sites who are still offering the original game for free didn't get any trouble so far.

I think it's a gray area.
If the company who is owning the rights is not existant it cannot claim copyrights of course.
But the guys behind the company are still there. They could transfer those rights and sue somebody on a personal level I think.
But I'm not a legal person - I don't have any clue on this topic.

I just noticed a fun fact regarding the original screens from Transarctica.

If the earth is covered in a thick layer of clouds (as shown in the game over screen) then the single screens (urga's place, mammoth market, station, etc.) should also show the same thick layer of clouds but the sky is pale blue :D. This would give all pictures a totally different ambience. They would be much much darker as no or just a few sunlight would reach the surface.

Well I would not call this clear sky:
Image
See how lightly the sun shine?
I think the artist just used many blue colours as plain white would be too dull?

I thought about the ending screen (Showing the planet (And others...)) to be drawn but those storms and cyclones would be way too much for me...

White, Blue and some grey always give a "cold" looking style. But I agree that just white is too dull.

Maybe the swirl filter in Photoshop / Gimp will do :?:
